Per-person 2026 costs for a two-night Shangarh trip from Delhi NCR on budget, mid-range and premium plans, with line items that add up and the assumptions behind them.
Quick summary
Shangarh is an inexpensive place to stay. Homestays are modest, the main walks are free, and the biggest cost is the roughly 500 km from Delhi. The figures below are per person for a trip from Delhi NCR with two nights in Shangarh (three days on the ground), in 2026 rupees.
Assumptions
- Two nights in Shangarh, in a room shared by two people, with dinner and breakfast included where stated.
- Budget plan travels by overnight bus to Aut and back, plus local buses and shared taxis.
- Mid-range and premium plans travel by car shared by four people, covering about 1,000 km round trip.
- Petrol at about ₹103 a litre (Kullu, October 2026). Fuel prices change, so check before you go.
- Room rates go up on May and June weekends and on long weekends.
- Bus fares and taxi rates are the ranges travellers report; confirm them when you book.
Budget plan: about ₹4,850 to ₹6,600 per person
Overnight bus to Aut, a local bus to Sainj, a shared taxi or bus up to Shangarh, a village homestay with meals, and the walks on your own.
- Delhi to Aut by overnight bus, round trip: ₹1,600 to ₹2,200 (₹800 to ₹1,100 each way on the cheaper services).
- Aut to Sainj to Shangarh and back: ₹200 to ₹350, by local bus and shared taxi.
- Homestay with dinner and breakfast: ₹1,000 to ₹1,300 a night; two nights ₹2,000 to ₹2,600.
- Lunches, chai and snacks: ₹250 to ₹350 a day; three days ₹750 to ₹1,050.
- Temple offering, water and small extras: ₹300 to ₹400.
- Barshangarh Waterfall and Pundrik Rishi Lake walks: free.
- Total: ₹4,850 to ₹6,600.
Mid-range plan: about ₹6,500 to ₹10,100 per person
Car shared four ways, a better homestay or guesthouse, a local guide for a walk, and more relaxed eating. Shangarh's typical spend of around ₹7,500 per person falls within this band.
- Car fuel and tolls, shared by four: ₹2,100 to ₹2,800. This is about 67 to 83 litres for 1,000 km at 12 to 15 km per litre (hill driving lowers mileage), which comes to ₹6,900 to ₹8,600 in petrol, plus roughly ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 in tolls. That makes ₹8,400 to ₹11,100 per car, rounded per person.
- Homestay or guesthouse with meals: ₹1,500 to ₹2,200 a night; two nights ₹3,000 to ₹4,400.
- Lunches, chai and road meals: ₹300 to ₹600 a day; three days ₹900 to ₹1,800.
- Your share of a local guide for a walk: ₹200 to ₹600.
- Offerings and extras: ₹300 to ₹500.
- Total: ₹6,500 to ₹10,100.
On a motorcycle instead: A 350cc bike carrying luggage in the hills typically manages 30 to 35 km per litre. That is about 29 to 33 litres for 1,000 km, or ₹2,900 to ₹3,500 per bike, and two-wheelers do not pay national highway tolls. Riding two-up, that is ₹1,450 to ₹1,750 per person, so the mid-range band becomes ₹5,850 to ₹9,050. Run your own numbers in the fuel calculator.
Adding nights
Each extra night adds about ₹1,250 to ₹1,650 per person on the budget plan (stay plus food) and ₹1,800 to ₹2,800 on the mid-range plan. To model a different group size or trip length, use the trip budget calculator.

Costs people forget
- Cash. The valley's ATMs are in Sainj. Carry enough cash for the whole stay rather than counting on card or UPI payments above it.
- A night en route if driving. At 11 to 13 hours each way, splitting the drive at Mandi adds a night's stay but is the safer choice.
- Weekend and holiday surcharges in May and June.
- GHNP permits and guides. You need prior permission to enter the park, and multi-day treks require certified guides and porters.
- Temple offerings, which are customary but up to you.
Ways to keep it down
- Take the overnight bus and local transport. The shared taxi from Sainj costs a fraction of a private cab.
- Choose a village homestay with meals rather than a roadside camp.
- Ask your homestay about a family member walking with you instead of hiring a separate guide.
- Travel in October or November, or midweek from March to June, and avoid long weekends.
In short: a two-night Shangarh trip from Delhi costs about ₹4,850 to ₹6,600 per person by bus with a village homestay, and ₹6,500 to ₹10,100 by shared car with better rooms.
