Jaisalmer Trip Cost from Delhi: Budget, Mid-Range and Premium

Quick summary

A Jaisalmer trip from Delhi NCR costs about ₹8,500 per person on a tight budget, ₹14,000 mid-range and ₹40,000 for a premium trip by air, for three nights: two in town and one at a desert camp. Getting there is the biggest line in every band, because Jaisalmer is 921 km from Delhi by rail and about 770 km by road; once you arrive, sightseeing is cheap. The tables below itemise each band so the totals add up and you can swap in your own numbers. For routes, seasons and what to see, start with the Jaisalmer destination guide.

Assumptions

  • Per person, two people travelling together and sharing a double room or camp tent.
  • Three nights: two in the old town below the fort and one at a desert camp (Khuri in the budget and mid-range plans, a luxury camp in the premium plan). Four days of sightseeing.
  • Normal-season weekday prices from November to February. Expect camp and hotel rates to rise sharply, often by half or more, for the Desert Festival week, Christmas to New Year and long weekends.
  • Train fares, room rates, camp packages, cab hire, flights and food are planning estimates rounded to the nearest hundred; check current fares on IRCTC and current rates with operators before booking.
  • Monument fees are small and change from time to time. Figures used here come from published listings: fort entry free, palace museum about ₹50 for Indian visitors, government-run Patwon ki Haveli ₹20, Kothari's Patwa Haveli museum ₹60, Salim Singh Ki Haveli ₹20 to ₹50, Kuldhara ₹10 per person plus ₹50 per vehicle, Bada Bagh ₹20 to ₹50, with camera fees on top. Carry cash in small notes.

Costs people forget

  • Nights on the road if you drive or ride: one stop each way at Bikaner or Jodhpur.
  • Camp extras: jeep rides, longer camel safaris and drinks are usually outside the package price. Ask for the inclusions in writing.
  • Peak-date surcharges: Desert Festival (30 January to 1 February in 2026), Christmas week and long weekends.
  • Camera fees at the palace museum, havelis and Bada Bagh.
  • Shopping: camel-leather bags, mirror-work textiles and silver in the lanes; set a limit before you start bargaining.
  • Desert National Park safari if you add one: entry at the Sudasari gate is listed at ₹100 for Indians plus jeep and guide hire; confirm at the forest office.
  • Fuel for the border road: cheap, but the Longewala and Tanot round trip is about 250 km with few pumps.

Ways to keep it down

  • Take the train. Sleeper and 3AC are the cheapest and most comfortable ways to cover 921 km, and you sleep through most of it.
  • Stay in the old town below the fort; rooms are cheaper than inside the walls and the view is better.
  • Choose Khuri over Sam for the desert night and ask for a no-music camp.
  • Eat thali lunches in the lanes and save rooftops for chai and one dinner.
  • Travel in November, early December or late January on a normal week rather than a festival or holiday weekend.
  • Share a cab for the desert afternoon or hire a scooter; a camp pick-up is often included in the package.

A comfortable Jaisalmer trip for two from Delhi NCR by 3AC train, with a haveli guesthouse and a good Khuri night, lands at about ₹14,000 per person. On sleeper class and simple stays it is closer to ₹8,500. The sky over the dunes costs the same either way. Rework any line in the trip budget calculator, and see the 2-day Jaisalmer itinerary for how the days fit around the train. If you are combining cities, Jodhpur is on the same line and roughly halves the return journey for a stopover.
