Rishikesh season by season

From Harsh's Rishikesh travel guide.

The best months are October, November, December, January, February and March. Each part of the year has a different trade-off, and the full month-by-month breakdown is on the best time to visit Rishikesh page.

  • October and November: the strongest months overall. The monsoon has cleared, the river is high and clean after reopening, rafting is running, and days are warm without being hot.
  • December and January: clear, crisp days and the best chance of seeing the snow peaks from Kunjapuri, but mornings drop to around 5–6°C and the river is very cold. Dense fog is common on the plains between Delhi and Haridwar, and the India Meteorological Department regularly issues fog warnings for western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, so drive after daylight and allow extra time.
  • February and March: warming up, pleasant on the water and in the hills, and a good time for yoga courses and long walks.
  • April to June: hot, with afternoons in the high 30s °C, but the cold river is welcome and rafting continues until 30 June. Weekends during school holidays are very crowded.
  • July to September: monsoon. Rafting is officially suspended from 1 July and resumes only after a joint inspection by the district administration, forest and tourism departments; reopening came on 27 September in 2025 and 23 September in 2026. Landslides can block the Badrinath highway, and the Kanwar Yatra in the Shravan month (usually July–August) brings heavy traffic and diversions between Haridwar, Rishikesh and Neelkanth.
