Alwar Trip Cost from Delhi (2026): Budget, Mid-Range and Premium

Quick summary

Alwar is one of the cheapest Rajasthan trips from Delhi NCR because it is close: about 160 km, or roughly four hours by road. The two things that push the bill up, a Sariska safari and a heritage fort or lake palace stay, are both optional. Below are per-person estimates for 2026 in three bands, each with line items that add up to the band total, plus a day-trip figure.

Assumptions behind these numbers

  • Two days and one night from Delhi NCR (the usual Alwar trip length is one to two days).
  • Two people sharing a room; car costs shared by four people (budget and mid-range) or by two (premium).
  • Round trip of about 450 km by road including local driving, a car averaging 15 km per litre and petrol at roughly ₹95 to ₹105 a litre.
  • Hotel rates are typical ranges for each category, not quotes; they rise on long weekends and over Christmas and New Year.
  • The Sariska safari is not included in the band totals. Safari fees were revised in April 2026 and vary by vehicle and nationality, so check the current rate on the official portal (see the safari section below) and add it on.
  • Kalakand and other shopping are extra.

Budget plan: about ₹2,000 to ₹3,800 per person

Train both ways, a simple city hotel, autos, the city sights and market food.

  • Train, Delhi to Alwar and back: ₹400 to ₹1,000 (sleeper or second sitting at the low end, chair car at the high end).
  • Stay: city hotel near the station or Hope Circus at ₹1,200 to ₹2,000 a double; one night, two sharing: ₹600 to ₹1,000.
  • Local transport: autos in town plus a shared ride up to Bala Quila and out to Siliserh: ₹300 to ₹600.
  • Entry tickets: Government Museum, Bala Quila reserve fee and similar: ₹100 to ₹200.
  • Food: ₹300 to ₹500 a day for two days: ₹600 to ₹1,000.
  • Total: ₹2,000 to ₹3,800.

Mid-range plan: about ₹4,250 to ₹6,650 per person

A car shared by four, a good city hotel or a lake-facing room at Siliserh, boating, one side trip and sit-down meals. Our typical budget for an Alwar trip, about ₹6,000 per person, sits inside this band.

  • Self-drive car: fuel ₹2,850 to ₹3,150 plus tolls of roughly ₹500 to ₹1,000 for the round trip on the expressway; split four ways: ₹850 to ₹1,050.
  • Stay: good city hotel or Siliserh Lake and Palace at about ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 a double; one night, two sharing: ₹1,500 to ₹2,500.
  • Entries and boating: museum, reserve fee for Bala Quila, a boat on Siliserh: ₹200 to ₹500.
  • Food: ₹700 to ₹1,000 a day for two days: ₹1,400 to ₹2,000.
  • Side trip to Bhangarh Fort or Kesroli Hill Fort: extra fuel share, entry and a meal: ₹300 to ₹600.
  • Total: ₹4,250 to ₹6,650.

Riding a motorcycle two-up instead of driving: about 450 km at 35 km per litre is roughly 13 litres, ₹1,250 to ₹1,350, or about ₹650 per person, with no expressway tolls (two-wheelers are not allowed on it).

Premium plan: about ₹11,000 to ₹21,000 per person

A car with driver from Delhi for a couple, a night at Kesroli Hill Fort or a luxury resort near Sariska, and meals at the hotel.

  • Hired sedan with driver, two days: about ₹7,000 to ₹10,000 including fuel and tolls; split two ways: ₹3,500 to ₹5,000.
  • Stay: heritage fort or luxury resort at about ₹8,000 to ₹20,000 a double; one night, two sharing: ₹4,000 to ₹10,000.
  • Meals at the hotel: ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 a day for two days: ₹3,000 to ₹5,000.
  • Entries, boating, guide and driver tips: ₹500 to ₹1,000.
  • Total: ₹11,000 to ₹21,000.

Premium travellers often book a whole gypsy for a private safari; add that on from the official rates.

Sariska safari: how to budget for it

  • Book on the Rajasthan Forest Department's official online booking portal; it shows the current fee for your date, vehicle and nationality.
  • You can book a seat in a shared gypsy (six seats) or canter, or the whole gypsy. Booking the whole vehicle makes most sense for a group of six or a private trip.
  • Each booking covers one zone and one shift. Zones 1 to 3 start from the Sariska gate, zone 4 from Tehla.
  • Fees were raised by about 10 percent from April 2026, so older blog figures understate the cost.
  • Budget separately for getting to the gate if you are not driving, a camera fee if applicable, and a tip for the guide and driver.
  • The core zones close for the monsoon, typically July to September.

Day trip from Delhi NCR

By train, with the city sights, lunch and Siliserh in the afternoon: train ₹400 to ₹1,000, local transport ₹200 to ₹400, entries ₹100 to ₹200 and food ₹300 to ₹500, so about ₹1,000 to ₹2,100 per person. The morning Ajmer Shatabdi (12015) leaves New Delhi at 6.10 am and reaches Alwar at about 8.30 am; check IRCTC for current timings, fares and evening trains back.

Costs people forget

  • The Sariska booking window. Weekend morning slots fill early; missing them costs you the safari.
  • Expressway tolls if you drive.
  • Camera fees at Sariska.
  • Tips for the safari guide and driver.
  • Kalakand to take home, which is easy to over-buy.
  • Holiday pricing on hotels over long weekends and the Christmas and New Year fortnight.

Ways to keep it down

  • Take the train; the morning Shatabdi gets you there in under two and a half hours.
  • Share a gypsy or take a canter seat rather than booking a whole vehicle.
  • Stay in the city and visit Siliserh for the afternoon instead of sleeping there.
  • See the fort, the chhatri and the museum by auto and on foot.
  • Eat in the market around Hope Circus.
